I had one of my favorite people, Joe, visiting during the last month and it gave me a great excuse to get out and explore parts of the island that aren’t quite as easy to get to. Polihale Beach is amazing. It’s not great for tourists to visit, since you can easily get stuck in the sand and mess up stuff with your rental car company, but it’s a jewel for those of us that live here. I forget how much I love it and then once I’m there I never want to leave.
It was actually kind of chilly and windy and the waves were enormous so the kids couldn’t really get in the water. It made for an amazing atmosphere and sunset though, so totally worth it. My two oldest refused to come with me, even with a lot of bribes. Luckily the two youngest still like to do stuff with me. Our friend Ben and his adorable son Koda joined us and it was such an amazing evening.
We also had two birthdays to celebrate in the last month. Lucy ended up getting extremely sick around her birthday party, so we had to cancel it. She was so sad. It was a little delayed, but we made sure she still got to blow out candles on a birthday cake. And, my sweet Aidan turned 12. My vanilla bean cheesecake is his favorite dessert, so we subbed that in for his cake.
These kids are pretty amazing. And this life is pretty amazing. I actually received some news today that kind of rocked my world. It’s really good for someone I love, but it’s also heartbreaking for us. But I am truly grateful for this life, for the relationships we have and the memories that we make. And today, I am so grateful for this project and friends that give me grace on the lateness of this post. I’m grateful to have had a great reason to capture these moments of beauty in this crazy life.
