I don’t usually shoot at Hanalei. It can be ridiculously crowded sometimes. It’s so hard to get shots without a million people in them and most clients have a hard time really relaxing when there are so many people around. But it’s so very pretty there. Insanely beautiful. I love the green mountains all around, the pier, even the sand color. It’s gorgeous. Sometimes, the light and clouds give off a haze around the mountains which I think is magical.
Luckily, the day I did this session for the M family the waves were really high and the beaches were closed. The waves at the beach didn’t seem all that big and people were out in the water anyway. It was the outer reef area that had the crazy big waves, but that helped thin out the crowds on the beach, so I was thrilled.
I also don’t shoot large families often because it seems to be running around trying to go from one posed image to the next. And, if you can’t already tell, I don’t love to shoot posed images. I always try to get a couple of Christmas card type shots, but the rest of the images I want to be playing and kissing and cuddling. I want to capture the love and connection and emotion in your family, not just pretty pictures of everyone looking at the camera.
T convinced me that I was the photographer for her and that I needed to do their family session and I am so happy that she did. I could not be happier with how these images came out. Not only were they all such a nice family, but they were fun. There was dancing, digging in the sand, playing in waves and tons and tons of hugs and kisses. It was a perfect, chaotic mess of love.
If you are a go with the flow type of family and really want to capture the beautiful and messy essence of your family, I want to be your photographer. That’s what I adore and I think together we can create some magic.
