My husband and I ran away from home for a weekend to Oahu. I knew I wanted to visit some places we hadn’t been to before and a friend used to live in Kailua and that was on my must do list. It was amazing. We went to Lanikai the following day. On the way there we drove some back way that was incredibly beautiful and I’m so glad we took that route. Sweet Spencer was so patient with me as I played around with my new film camera. I don’t shoot a ton of landscapes, because I don’t feel it’s my strong point, but I wanted to capture these memories for us, and I do think they’re pretty enough that hopefully people aren’t bored looking at them. It’s a fun thing to practice and I’m trying to get better so I can capture some landscapes in client sessions and we have a little more of the feeling and surroundings of the session. It helps tell the story better, and I am all about telling stories with my images if I can.
Even though I’ve lived in Hawaii for almost 7 years, I had never actually seen a man-o-war but they were all over the beaches both days. They’re kind of creepy, but also cool to look at so I had to get a shot of those. The water at the beaches we hit here were so aqua. I haven’t seen water that color on Kauai, it seems like our water is a little more blue, and the sand was so soft and amazing. It’s fun to explore and check out new places.
