These guys came to Kauai from the Bay area. It was supposed to be raining that morning but we chanced it and got really, really lucky. It rained pretty much everywhere else that day. We met at sunrise and pretty much just played. The session was extra magical, at least for me shooting, because they were carefree. I was able to walk in and just start capturing them doing their own family interactions. That’s where the beauty and the ordinary mix. That is what makes me feel so strongly when I’m looking in through the images I shot.
During the session I was able to watch dad carefully guide his little girl up a big, swinging rope bridge thing to get to a slide. Honestly, I would have either just lifted my child to the top or told them it was too hard for them. They taught me a lesson here. He encouraged her, helped her think through the best and safest places to put her feet and she did it. The look on her face when she got to the top-it was priceless. She was so proud and he had helped her build confidence and do something that was hard for her without giving up. It was such a great reminder to help encourage my kids to try to do things, even if they they’re scared or it’s hard. I’m so grateful for these amazing families that come into my life and teach me such important things.
