I loved this session and how our Kauai sunset beach photos came out. Black and white images are something I love to shoot. I’ll always shoot at least some at sessions, because it’s part of who I am and how I see things. Even if clients say they prefer color, I’m still going to throw a couple of black and white photos into their gallery. But this beautiful family, they preferred black and white! I was so excited to hear that.
Families with teens are so fun and also challenging. Getting natural reactions other than eye rolls is a bit tougher than with little kids. Littles just run around and do their thing and all I have to do is follow them. With older kids, and adults, it’s challenging. Sometimes I have to do silly things to get them out of their shells and interacting more than they naturally would. Although I love to shoot real life, teens standing around looking bored or annoyed at a photo session is not really what parents are looking to have captured.
Luckily, this family was really chill and pretty easy going. The teens got along and we were able to get so many great, natural interactions. One of my favorite shots is the vertical image with all 4 of them walking in different directions, looking away. We didn’t pose this AT ALL. I love layered shots like that, so I’m always looking for ways to capture it in a photo session.
I loved the way the pink light was showing on the water, so I had to shoot at least a few in color to capture those beautiful tones. It was a gorgeous evening for a photo session.
